Description

Cooled ashes go into this round metal pail, and the lid closes over them. It holds 6 gallons, stands 16.5 inches tall on a reinforced base, and has a pail handle so you can carry it out with one hand. The finish is black, and there is nothing to assemble.

EPA's wood-burning advice is to keep ashes in a covered metal container stored outdoors on a surface that cannot burn. That is the routine this bucket is made for. Shovel in ashes that have gone cold, close the lid, and set the bucket outside on stone or concrete rather than on your wooden deck.

Burn only dry, split wood seasoned for at least six months and stored outdoors off the ground with only the top covered, and test it with a moisture meter, since wood burns best below 20 percent moisture. Never start a fire with gasoline, kerosene or charcoal starter, and never burn trash, cardboard, plastics, or coated, painted or pressure-treated wood, plywood or particle board. Keep the appliance doors closed except when loading or stoking, and put ashes in a covered metal container stored outdoors on a nonflammable surface. Read September 26, 2026.
National Fire Protection Association: Heating Safety tip sheet. Keep anything that can burn at least three feet from a fireplace, wood stove or other heating equipment, keep a three-foot kid-free zone around open fires, and have a qualified professional install stationary heating equipment to local codes and the manufacturer's instructions. Have heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected every year by a qualified professional, give the fireplace a sturdy screen against sparks, and let ashes cool before putting them in a metal container kept a safe distance from the home.
