Measure first
How to measure for a fireplace screen
- Measure the widest point of the opening and its tallest point, arch included.
- Choose a screen wider and taller than both readings, so it covers the opening from edge to edge with margin at the sides.
- Measure the hearth depth in front of the opening: a three-panel screen needs room for its side panels, while a flat screen with back feet stands close to the face.
01 Screens
Picking a screen by type, size and finish
Our screens come in three shapes. Three-panel screens (Gothic, Mission Style, Iris Scroll, Asteria) stand on their own with the side panels angled toward the room. Screens with doors (Harper, Stonewall, Manchester, Debden) open at the front, so you tend the fire without moving the screen. Several of them sit flush against the fireplace on adjustable back feet.
The freestanding glass screen is the odd one out: a single panel of glass that stands on adjustable back feet in front of a smaller opening. For the mesh screens, hold the overall size against your opening. The arched Victorian Gothic screen measures 48 by 30 inches, the Gothic screen with handles 46.5 by 31, and the Mission Style screen 54 by 31.5.
Finish ties a screen to the rest of the hearth. Waverly comes in colonial brown, Sheffield in vintage iron, Stonewall in gunmetal and Asteria in wenge, and many screens in the Pleasant Hearth lineup share a name with a tool set.
