Measure first
How to measure for fireplace glass doors
- Across the opening, take the width at the top and at the bottom of the masonry, then use the smaller reading.
- Up the opening, take the height at the left side and at the right side, from the hearth to the lintel, then use the smaller reading.
- Find the size whose opening width and opening height ranges both hold your readings. Where Small and Medium overlap, the height decides.
01 Glass Doors

Every door here fits a masonry, wood-burning fireplace, and many come in three sizes. Small and Medium cover openings 30 to 37 inches wide and part at the height (Small from 22.5 inches, Medium up to 32.5), while Large takes openings 36 to 43 inches wide. Carlisle and Clairmont stop their Small at 27.5 inches of height, and Linear Aluminum is sized by the inch instead, in frames 36 or 40 inches wide. The small doors and the large doors gather every collection in one size.
Door style comes next. Bi-fold doors such as Ascot, Clairmont, Gavin and Collin fold back in panels, while cabinet doors such as Alpine, Carlisle, Easton, Alsip and Fillmore swing open whole, like a cupboard. Ascot, Alpine, Arrington and Fillmore use clear glass and most of the others smoked, and Gavin sets its glass in a three-sided bay frame.
Finish closes the choice: black on nearly every collection, then oil rubbed bronze, burnished bronze, gunmetal, skyline nickel, heritage brass or hammered black. The Ascot carries the most ratings on the shelf, and most models add a hidden damper knob that sets the airflow.
