01 Vent free gas logs
One log design, three ways to install it
The Southern Oak, Valley Oak and Wildwood log sets share one design with the Pewter Oak and Platinum Oak fireplace systems and our vent-free gas stoves. All of them burn natural gas or propane with no flue, so the combustion products stay in the room. Ratings run from 20,000 to 33,000 BTU, and the log sets come 18 and 24 inches wide.
Read the rules before you choose one. EPA does not support unvented gas stoves or logs in homes because of indoor air quality. California bars the sale of unvented heaters for dwellings and allows natural gas vent-free logs only with state approval, and CPSC says never to run one in a room where people sleep. Where your local code allows it, fit carbon monoxide alarms on every level and outside sleeping areas, and have a certified technician install it.
