Each of our gas tables hides a propane tank behind a hinged door, lights with a piezo knob and lets you turn the flame up or down. Halifax and the Montreal reach 40,000 BTU and take a lid that turns the burner into a table surface, Montreal as a 38-inch square. Lockwood runs at 30,000 BTU on adjustable floor levelers, and Halifax and Lockwood both fill the burner with blue glass rocks.
EPA notes that switching from wood to natural gas or propane reduces harmful air pollutants. A gas table is still an open flame, though. NFPA keeps any fire pit outdoors, at least 10 feet from anything that can burn and away from decks and eaves, and your local fire rules come first.
