Description

Selene is a single flat panel of black mesh with a bar across the top and curled feet, an industrial look that still fits a traditional room.

At 10 inches deep it takes little room on the hearth, and it stands 39 inches wide and 31 high. Adjustable back feet bring it flush against the fireplace, and it needs only minimal assembly. Its companion on our tools shelf is the Selene tool set.

U.S. Fire Administration (FEMA): Fireplace and Wood Stove Safety. Keep a glass or metal screen in front of the fireplace to stop embers and sparks, keep anything that can burn at least three feet from a fireplace or wood stove, and put the fire out before going to sleep or leaving home. Keep wood stove doors closed unless loading or stoking, use a stove tested by a qualified testing laboratory, and keep fireplace switches and remote controls out of children's reach. Have the chimney inspected and cleaned every year by a professional, and put ashes in a lidded metal container placed outside at least 10 feet from the home. Read September 26, 2026.
National Fire Protection Association: Heating Safety tip sheet. Keep anything that can burn at least three feet from a fireplace, wood stove or other heating equipment, keep a three-foot kid-free zone around open fires, and have a qualified professional install stationary heating equipment to local codes and the manufacturer's instructions. Have heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected every year by a qualified professional, give the fireplace a sturdy screen against sparks, and let ashes cool before putting them in a metal container kept a safe distance from the home.
